History/Awards
The team originated in 1981, and was first called the San Mateo Condors 1981-1983. From 1984-2003- We were the San Mateo Bulldogs. Then the COA passed a rule that you couldn't have the same team colors, nickname & other similar identities so we changed our name to Coach Vagt's alma mater-University of Texas and became the Nor-Cal Longhorns. This team is made up mostly of players from the San Mateo County Community Colleges. In the last seven years, we had to recruit  Division II & III & NAIA  players in order to compete against the other Summer Collegiate teams we play. Menlo College has been our main source.

Then on Wednesday the Pitching recorded another shutout by the score of 7-0 over the East Bay Lumberjacks and finished a run of six games in a row. Congrats to Ryan Scoma-Member of the 110% Club who was drafted by the San Francisco Giants today-6/11/09-#1077 Round 36-Hard Works always pays off-He played two great seasons for us and was always a favorite of both his fellow teammates and especially his caoches!!

HORNS BREAK THE ICE-They beat Oakland Expos 3-0
The Horns got an outstanding pitching performance from Pitchers' Scott Newberry from Chico State and newly acquired Andy Hennessey from San Jose State. Chabot's Andrew Koontz closed it out. They all combined for a three-hit shutout. The Horns will play the Expos again at Salesian High School on Saturday in a Doubleheader.

The Horns Bow to Athletes In Action 4-3

The Horns lost another one-run ballgame on Tuesday at CSM. The Horns  had a lead going into the top of the 9th 3-2 but couldn't hold down an talented team from Kansas. Once again Matt Simpson pitched 7 Innings and only gave up one earned run. He only threw 89 pitches in the 7 Innings. With two outs in the 9th, James Chamberlin struck out the batter but the umpire apparently had some raindrops in his eyes and missed the strikeout. The batter walked and the next batter tripled and then he scored on a base hit. The Horns are 1-5 in one run ballgames. Their pitching has been stellar and keeping the opposition to below 4 runs per game in those 6 outings.

Former player Joe Mc Kane's album just came out-
Album-Audiodub's  "Daytime TV" ---Featured Song "Save Your Soul"

Look out for "Calvin Marshall"
Former player Gary Lungren is a good Writer and Producer and has just finished a movie called "Calvin Marshall"-This you can't miss per Gary. It's all about a Junior College player who finds another avenue in his life. Is this Auto-Biographical? I remember when Gary and Brad Wickman shared my three Bedroom Apt in Belmont. I also remember the night we all went to Pier  39 and the three of us did a trio of two hit songs. I still have the tape and one of the songs was " Jack and Diane"
Hope this movie is a hit Gary!!!!!

MVP Mikael Ryder from the 2006-2008 seasons has signed a contract with the Chico Outlaws. Congrats Mike!!!!!!

Sierra Baseball League becomes the
Pacific West League

Due to the League's President mishaps with our league funds and other misappropriations the league has changed it's name to "Pacific West League". The teams has shrunk to 4 for the 2009 Season-Atwater Aviators,Glory Baseball(Stockton), San Jose Seals and the Nor-Cal Longhorns. The new web-site for the league will be up and running within 30 days.

2009 Summer Kick-Off

The Nor-Cal Longhorns are about to start on May 23rd, 2009, with an unbelievable schedule of 55 games. Also, we are now in 3 leagues. We have rejoined the Sacramento Rural League, the newly formed Pacific West League and the Horizon Air League. This year we will be participating in the Colorado Shootout in Grand Junction, CO. This is the site of the Junior College World Series. There will teams from Chicago, IL, Kansas, Arizona and two teams from Colorado.

Also Major announcement is that Head Coach Jeff Bowman will be tying the knot at the end of the Summer.

Season Comes To an End

The Season finished like no other one with the Horns losing it's last 6 games. They lost all 4 games in the Hawaii Tournament despite going "BALL OUTS" in the last game. It was a game to remember. The Horns kept coming back and went ahead three times before surrendering runs. The final inning was a sad finish to a very successful season. Japan got a runner aboard who promptly stole second. They sacrificed the runner to third. The Horns walked the next two guys to load the bases. Then with a drawn in Outfield and Infield. The next batter hit a line drive to the right fielder who dropped the ball and the runner scored the winning run. What a let down!!

Well next year starts again May 2009. New faces and New Players. We have been invited to go to Colorado for 10 days in June so that is on the Horizon besides going back to Hawaii.

Horns Finished Second to Grapesox
Despite Crushing the Grape Sox on the first night of the Championship Series winning 12-7.  The Horn's bowed and got spanked the next two games. The team and Manager were very over confident and let lackluster playing take heed. The Horn's proceeded to lose the next two games. So in the ignagual season of the Sierra Baseball League the Horn's finished second. The Longhorns also finished second again in the Horizon Air League. Major changes are due for 2009.
MILESTONE REACHED

Head Coach Lenny Vagt reached a milestone by winning his 1200 career win by the Longhorns beating the Novato Knicks 4-1.  The 35 year career spans from 1973 to 2008.

The Horns placed three players on the Sierra Baseball League All-Star Game. Dan Camou, Ross Blondin and Mikael Ryder represented the Longhorns. Mikael got the save in relief and the South beat the Heavily favorite North 7-5. The North PADDED their roster with 7 extra players. Everyone was to have 3 reps but Lodi decided to have 7 players from their team. Alot of teams were puzzled on how this happenned.

The Horns have beat all of the BIG BOYS this summer--Lodi(1 game), Novato Knicks(2 games) and Palm Springs Power(2 games) without a loss.

Horizon Air League

The All-Star Team from this league was announced on Sept. 2007. Jason Diemer made the second team and Mikael Ryder, Ryan Scoma and Gino Lavezzo made Honorable mention.

The Longhorns finished 22-18 and 15-13 in League Play. They also finished 2nd in the International Tournament in Hawaii losing to Osaka, Japan 3-1.
